Planned water supply maintenance for 3 to 10 May 2026

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas, which will result in water supply disruptions. This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.

Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements

Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee that all residents will experience a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they can prepare if one does occur.
 
Planned maintenance work will result in a water supply disruption to these areas:
 
Shutdown of the Faure Water Treatment Plant (WTP)

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate advises that the Faure Water Treatment Plant RSE Pipeline has been shut down to accommodate repairs to a newly installed RSE inlet valve at the Faure Water Treatment Plant.
 
The RSE pipeline has been scoured and will remain empty from Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The pipeline will be recharged from Tuesday, 5 May 2026 at 23:59, once repairs to the inlet valve have been completed. During this period, all private consumers supplied via the RSE pipeline between the RSE offtake valve and the Faure Water Treatment Plant will be affected.
 
Blackheath Water Treatment Plant shutdown

The Blackheath Water Treatment Plant will be shut down to accommodate necessary maintenance at the plant. The planned shutdown is scheduled for Wednesday, 6 May 2026, from 07:00 to Sunday, 10 May 2026 at 23:59.
 
This shutdown will significantly reduce the overall production capacity of the bulk water system. Residents across the city are therefore requested to use water sparingly during this period and to limit usage to essential purposes only, to help maintain system stability and protect bulk water storage levels while the maintenance is underway.
 
Parts of Rondebosch and Mowbray

The City will be shutting off the water supply to a part of Rondebosch and Mowbray on Sunday, 3 May 2026 from 08:00 until 16:00 to safely replace a defective 100 mm valve in Harris Road. The affected areas include the vicinity of Rondebosch Medical Centre, Harris Road and Rondebosch Golf Club and the surrounding area.
 
Parts of Oranjezicht

A water pipeline replacement project is underway in Upper Orange Street, Belmont Avenue and Montrose Avenue. To facilitate the replacement of a valve the water supply to Belmont Avenue, and Forest Road will be shut off on Tuesday, 5 May 2026 from 08:00 to 20:00. As part of the same project, in order to switch over from bypass to the new water main, the water supply to Montrose Avenue will be shut off on Thursday, 7 May 2026 from 08:00 to 17:00.

Parts of Bergvliet

The City will be shutting off the water supply to a part of Bergvliet, on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, from 09:00 until 19:30 which will result in a water supply disruption. This will allow for the following work to be safely completed: the construction on the main water supply to the area and the connections to the existing water supply infrastructure at the intersections of Dreyersdal and Syringa Roads, Dreyersdal and Gumtree Roads, and Dreyersdal Road and Childrens Way.

The affected area is bounded by Dreyersdal Road, Syringa Road, Gumtree Road and Childrens Way and surrounding areas in Bergvliet.
 
Parts of Constantia

The City will be shutting off the water supply to parts of Constantia on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00. This involves the connection of a newly installed water pipeline along Meadow Lane and Dale Street, Constantia at the intersection of Meadow Lane with Parish Road to the existing water reticulation system. The areas affected area is bounded by Parish Road, Evergreen Lane and Constantia Main.
 
Parts of Goodwood

The City will temporarily shut off the water supply to parts of Tygerdal, Glenwood, Townsend Estate and Goodwood Estate on Tuesday, 5 May 2026 from 09:00 until 17:00. The contractor will be doing valve installations and tie-ins along Townsend road in Tygerdal. The area will experience no water or low water pressure during this period.
 
Parts of Delft

Due to the construction of the Housing Project in Delft and the contractor requiring to do about 12 tie-ins to the City’s water main, the City will temporarily shut off the water supply to parts of Delft on Tuesday, 5 May 2026 from 08:00 until 17:00 and Thursday, 7 May 2026 from 08:00 until 17:00. The affected area includes Delft 1 and Delft 2.
 
Parts of Hout Bay

The City will be shutting off the water supply to Pinedine Road, Hout Bay, on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00 and part of Darling Street, Hout Bay, on Thursday, 6 May 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00. This will enable the safe completion of construction work on the main water supply to the area and will result in the disruption of water supply to Darling Street, Pinedine Road, Scottsville Cricle, Guinevere Avenue and surrounding area in Hout Bay.
 
Parts of Ocean View

The City will be conducting maintenance on the water supply network in Ocean View on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This work is not expected to, but may result in intermittent supply of water to this area throughout the day.
 
Parts of Lakeside

The City will be conducting maintenance on the water supply network in Lakeside on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This work is not expected to but may result in intermittent supply of water to this area throughout the day.
 
Parts of Imhoff’s Gift

The City will be conducting maintenance on the water supply network in Imhoff’s Gift on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This work is not expected to but may result in intermittent supply of water to this area throughout the day.
 
Parts of Glencairn

The City will be shutting off the water supply to a part of Glencairn on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, from 09:00 until 19:30. This will enable the safe completion of construction work on the main water supply to the area. The affected area is bounded by Glen Road, Glenhurst Road, Glenoak Road, Hopkirk Way, Kemps Way, Jurgens Way, Reids Way and surrounding areas.

Parts of Lotus River

The City will be shutting off the water supply to parts of Lotus River on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, from 08:00 until 16:00. This will enable the safe completion of construction work on the main water supply to the area. The area affected by the shut-off will be erven within the boundaries of Strandfontein Road, Third Avenue, Riverside Road and Stephen Road.

Parts of Eureka Estate, Elsies River

The City will temporarily shut off the water supply to part of Eureka Estate, Elsies River, bounded by 35th Street, Connaught Road 42nd Avenue and Owen Road on Wednesday, 6 May 2026 from 09:00 until 18:00. This will allow a City appointed contractor to connect the newly laid water main to the existing water mains along Connaught Road.  The area will experience no water during this period.

Parts of Hanover Park, Pinati Estate and Athlone Instrustria

The City will be shutting off the water supply to a part of Hanover Park on Wednesday, 6 May 2026 from 08:30 until 19:00 in order for a City appointed contractor to permanently connect the 300mm water main in Govan Mbeki Road. The affected area includes Govan Mbeki Road between Heins Road and Old Strandfontein Road, Springfield Road and all the side roads leading off Springfield Road. The area will experience no water or low water pressure during this period.
 
Parts of Philippi

The City will be shutting off the water supply to a part of Philippi on Thursday, 7 May 2026 from 09:00 to 18:00. This will allow a City appointed contractor to safely install a new 80mm connection. The affected will be New Eisleben Road between Govan Mbeki and Bristol Road and immediate surroundings will be affected.
 
Leak detection in Delft, and Brakkloof, Noordhoek (informative)

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be conducting visual leak detection in Delft, and Brakkloof, Noordhoek from Monday, 4 May 2026, to Friday, 8 May 2026, from 09:00 to 15:00. Leak detection is one of the water demand management interventions for saving water and reducing water loss through leaks.

• Leak detection team will be walking on the streets to identify potential leaks, check all pipe contact points such as valves, water meter and fire hydrants.
  
• All leaks will be reported to the relevant depot for repairs.
  
• Residents are advised that there will be no disruption in water during this exercise.

Residents are advised to store water in advance as a precautionary measure in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
 
Smart meter pre-installation survey (informative)

The City of Cape Town has appointed PPD Engineering and Hardware Supplies to carry out site surveys ahead of installing smart water meters. Teams will be visiting selected properties in Bellville CBD, Bellville, Belgravia (Bellville), Arauna, Airport City, Beaconvale, Avalon Estate, Avondale (Parow), Sack's Circle Industria, Bellville South Industria and Bellville South from 4 to 11 May 2026 as part of this process.
 
This forms part of the City’s programme to modernise water metering and improve how water is managed across Cape Town. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with the survey team where possible. Your participation will help ensure a smooth rollout of smart water meters in your area.
 
The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:

1. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
   
2. All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
   
3. Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
   
4. For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions:

• Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period.
  
• Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
